My Place (WA) Pty Ltd is a private company established in 1996 in response to a need for more flexible and individualised approach to provide support for people with disability in Western Australia. Until that time Western Australians with disabilities in receipt of Disability Services Commission (DSC) funding had few options if they wanted to live in a home of their own, wherever they chose, with whomever they chose, in a manner they chose and supported by carers they chose. The name My Place was purposely selected to reflect the very individualised, consumer-controlled focus of the service. My Place (WA) Pty Ltd operates the DSC-funded Shared Management program.
My Place Foundation Inc. is a non-profit incorporated association established in 2000 to receive and manage direct care services funding allocated to My Place (WA) Pty Ltd for people with disability by the Disability Services Commission. Any unspent funds are used by the Foundation to assist other people with disability using My Place’s services. The Board of My Place Foundation Inc. includes an independent Chair drawn from the community and a consumer representative. My Place Foundation Inc. operates the DSC-funded Shared Co-ordination and Provider Management programs.
My Place supports people with varying disabilities including: intellectual disability, cerebral palsy, multiple sclerosis, autism, muscular dystrophy and spinal injury. The 230 people with disability that My Place currently supports range in age from 10 to 72 and live around the Perth metropolitan area, the South West and Albany region.
My Place’s services were independently evaluated in 2011 by the Disability Services Commission. My Place was found to be meeting all nine Disability Services Standards eight at ‘Best Practice’ level. My Place was independently evaluated again in 2011 under the new Quality Management framework. The full report can be read in Our Evaluations.
